The novelty of late night phone calls bringing news of new spots to hit will never grow old. With a fresh new wall to paint, all that was needed was a new outline to match. I sat all night, focused on a solitary sheet of white paper. Aliens was on in the background, alas, no amount of Ripley mashing up aliens seemed to inspire. After taking a break from mixing some good old Acid Techno, I came across the Acid Ted – Infected Rejected track. One hour later and a fresh new sketch was born!
Hours upon hours were spent in this spot as a youth, and aged 14, my first ever piece went up around here. A decade later, myself and an acquaintance returned to put up something fresh. Initially, we worked towards a production inspired by Adam & Eve, but ended up basing it on a track by Headrush Tactics, ‘Your Religion, Their Control’.
This sketch was originally intended for the walls of Balance, a headshop in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The theme was the balance of destruction, my sketch based around the line …‘Who decides why we live, and what we’ll die to defend’ The line in question revolves around the idea that we are the ones who ultimately decide how our lives are shaped. This was a strong piece to express how the character of Mila K stands up proud for what she believes in, regardless of such expressions often being described as so-called eyesores, or as criminal damage.
